Have smartphones destroyed a generation?

The Atlantic came out with this piece last fall and, if you missed it, now is the time to begin thinking about your next generation of employees and teammates. The discussion centers around how smartphones and how the rise of social media has changed the way young people interact with the world. This new generation, younger than the so-called millennials, places less value on independence and autonomy than their predecessors did. They aren't in a hurry to get the classic summer job and they often don't even care about getting a driver's license. They are physically safer than any other previous generation. Teen alcohol abuse is down along with its related ills. Teen pregnancy? Way down. But they are less emotionally "safe" with huge spikes in depression and suicide. So what does this mean for you?Aside from the fact that you may have children that belong to this group, you're almost DEFINITELY beginning to encounter them in the workplace and in the interview room. The subjects of this article now range up to age 24 and are likely beginning to send you resumes. It's time to learn how you can best serve and lead them. Start here.
