Roadmap for 2020

Sales is nothing but a continuous cycle of beginnings, ends, and the furious urgency that suspends us between. This week kicks off the start of the holiday season, smack dab in the middle of Q4, and staring down the end of the decade. In another month, social media, magazine covers, and email inboxes will be filled with inspiration, resolutions, and goal setting exercises. If you’re a salesperson hustling to finish a holiday month, and end the quarter strong, it’s unlikely you’ve begun to think about any of this. And although it makes sense, [staying in your lane should be priority one] failure to start thinking about this now...might be your first mistake of 2020.That’s why for the next month I’ll be publishing a roadmap to help guide you into closing your year strong, and preparing you to step into the new decade. I challenge you to start with me today to create a greater future than the past we leave behind. For the remaining few weeks of the decade, we will reflect on our past and discuss:

  • what went well,
  • where did we fall short, and
  • what lessons were learned.

I will teach you how to set goals, and how to create an actionable plan to reach them. Along the way, I will provide short exercises, and I want to hear from you on your experience. What are you willing to do now, that you've never been willing to do before, in order for you to get what you want? Because there’s no better time than the present, let's start now!"Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful. - Margaret WheatleyUse the following prompts to reflect on the past year. Now is the time for radical, and brutal honesty. It is not the time to beat yourself up, or to sugar coat, but it demands an increase in self-awareness. Let's get down to it:1. Did you set any resolutions or goals to achieve in 2019?2. Will you finish the year with any unfinished plans or projects?3. Last year, did you create an actionable plan to reach your goals?4. Did you experience any major changes or hurdles that threw you off your plan? How did you respond?5. How have you controlled the direction your life has taken this year? How did you get where you are today?6. Can you think of a time this year that you fear held you back from taking a leap?7. What successes did you accomplish? How did you achieve this?8. Did you achieve your career and financial goals? Did your behavior play a part in this?9. What did you do to practice self-care?10. Did you learn a new skill either professionally, or personally? One final thought. I sat down with my friend John Barrows recently and we talked about motivation.Take a listen here: Make it Happen Monday Mastering MotivationBest,SL
