The Winners and Losers of America’s Startup Economy

Two traits that startup hubs NYC and San Francisco have in common are their strong tech talent and high cost of living. The first makes them appealing to entrepreneurs but the latter can make them less than ideal.This in part is why places like Austin have seen a rise in new businesses coming to town. But why Austin and not Boise, or why Chicago instead of Buffalo? According to Ian Hathaway, a researcher with The Center for American Entrepreneurship, there are a few geographical attributes that make for an optimal startup spot. One example you might guess is that cities with great university education systems attract entrepreneurs. Also interesting to note is that startups have begun to decline...
